Offering a total of 21-acres to roam, walk, dog walk, hike—Porter Woodlands sits on the banks of the Charles River. This and other protected land in Dover is managed by Dover Land Conservation Trust.
Porter Woodlands and Photography
Boston Newborn and Family Photographer loves Dover’s Porter Woodlands’ open space found along Bridge Street and Farm Street. This open meadow serves as the entrance to the Charles River walk, where many visitors were walking with their dogs for an afternoon stroll.
Porter Woodland’s open field and meadow offers a vast area for children to play and explore. In the center, you will find foliage, trees, bushes of many textures and tones. Walk along the rock street wall and capture children’s individual portraits. There’s also tall grass that proves warmer tones to your portraits, which is our glowing, dreamy esthetic we strive for here at Blush Baby Photo!
The land is rather even with small elevations to use for posing families. If you’re looking for a vast, open, warm space—Porter Woodlands is your Greater Boston Photography location!
Parking at Porter Woodlands
There is not a dedicated parking lot at Porter Woodlands, however, vehicles are allowed to park along the rock wall on Bridge Street. Visitors will see where vehicles have carved out space once they arrive.

When to Photograph Porter Woodlands
As Boston’s Newborn and Family Photographer, we love the golden glows our sunset sessions offer your portraits. That is why we hold all of our outdoor lifestyle sessions at least 1-hour prior to sunset. This time allows for that golden light to wrap your family in warmth and make for stunning family photos.
Porter Woodlands added to that warmth in the New England Summer months. We love shooting there in July, August and September. The grass is grainy (yes! grainy!) The tress are still filled with lush leaves providing a handsome background to your family’s portraits. There also are wildflowers blooming, depending what month you visit. Queen Anne’s Lace is very popular among children. Their pretty, white, delicate blossoms make for great family portrait props.
Sunsets at Porter Woodlands
Boston’s Newborn and Family Photographer, Blush Baby Photo loves a good sunset and Porter Woodlands has that. Given it’s vast open space, you will find the sun shining above a grand line of forrest trees. An hour before sunset, you can pose your clients in front of those trees to get that sought after dappled light. When the sun starts to set, move your clients over to the open space and shoot into the light. There’s nothing more we love than a backlit, golden family portrait. Go get that sun!
